Minimum Requirements* To qualify, students must:

  • Be enrolled in the 10th grade in fall 2025.

  • Maintain a minimum unweighted GPA of 2.5.

  • Attend a high school in the Chicago Metropolitan Area.

  • Qualify for free or reduced lunch or parents/guardians made less than $112,000 in 2024.

  • Complete the program application in full.

  • Complete parental media release form 

  • Actively engage in career training workshops to build skills and prepare for future opportunities.

  • Attend at least four program sessions in persons per semester.

 

*Applicants that do not meet the minimum requirements may be accepted on a case-by-case basis.

This program is designed to attract students who are motivated to improve themselves and their communities.

Core Competencies Needed
Students accepted into this program must exhibit the following core competencies:

 

  • Drive. Demonstrated interest in acquiring skills or vocational training; strong work ethic; and readiness to engage in training, internships, and workshops to make themselves the strongest possible candidates for future employment.

  • Adaptability. Ability to adjust to new challenges in an evolving workforce.

  • Team Spirit. Willingness to collaborate effectively in diverse teams and environments.

Core Competencies Gained
After the program, participants will obtain the following:

  • Professionalism. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of how to enter and succeed in the workplace. This includes building a strong resume, developing a professional online presence (including social media and LinkedIn best practices), and learning how to network effectively. Once in the workplace, participants will be equipped with the tools to thrive — including financial literacy, workplace etiquette, and access to mentorship that supports long-term success.

  • Resilience. By learning strategies to overcome professional and personal challenges, students will strengthen their ability to persist in achieving goals despite setbacks.

  • Leadership. Participants will get practice taking initiative, managing responsibilities, and building confidence—fostering their ability to lead inclusive change in their community.

  • Problem Solving. Students will learn how to analyze challenges, think critically, and propose creative solutions.

  • Communication. Through workshops, internships, and trainings, students will enhance their verbal and written communication skills—improving their ability to articulate ideas.

  • Emotional Intelligence. Participants will learn to recognize, understand, and manage emotions effectively to build stronger relationships, resolve conflicts, and lead with empathy in professional settings.
